Cannabis sativa

The hemp plant grows and regenerates rapidly without any fertilizers. Therefore, it is considered one of the most ecological plants on earth. It grows up to four meters high, and, according to traditional Nepalese craft, the long fibres is obtained from inside the stem and, after soaking for several days, it is freed, ground, spun and woven. The textile thus obtained is renowned for its solidity, insulating capacities and resistance. Hemp fibres are also used to make paper.

Himalayan Nettle

The weaving of nettle fibres ‘Allo’ in the Himalayan hills of Nepal is an ancestral tradition. Wild nettle grows in abundance in the Himalayan foothills, reaching up to three meters in height. These bushes are cut down at their stem to obtain long fibres. The fibres are then spun and woven to make thread, ropes and weavings for clothes and bags.
